§ 1-3. RULES OF CONSTRUCTION.

a. Tenses. The present tense includes the past tense and future tense, and the future tense includes the present tense.
b. Gender. The masculine gender includes the feminine and neuter.
c. Number. The singular number includes the plural, and the plural, the singular.
d. Shall and May. “Shall” is mandatory and “may” is permissive.
e. Computation of Time. The time in which action provided by this Code is to be done is computed by excluding the first day and including the last, unless the last day is a holiday, and then it is also excluded.
